Description:
May be a short-lived perennial. Best in full sun or part shade.  Provide a sheltered location against strong winds.  Contact with delphinium foliage can cause skin irritation.  Harmful if eaten.

Care:
Remove spent flower spikes to encourage more blooms in late summer. Once the initial bloom period ends, cut back delphiniums to two inches above ground level to encourage a second late summer or autumn bloom.
Propagation:
Germination rate of delphinium seed is improved if seeds are placed in a ziplock bag with a small amount of moist growing media (or a moist paper towel), placed in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Note:  Most larkspur are annuals while most delphiniums are perennial.  
Diseases:
May be susceptible to aphids, earwigs, delphinium leaf miner, delphinium moth caterpillars, slugs, snails and caterpillars.  May be susceptible to powdery mildews, delphinium black blotch, crown rot and viruses.
